The Bird House Archaeological Site is a significant historical landmark within the township. The Quaker Settlement, established by John Reading in 1715, was the first non-Native American community in Allamuchy. The Quakers, also known as the Society of Friends, set up a community in the northeastern part of the township by 1752. The Quaker Grove School, established on the site of the Quaker meeting house, played a pivotal role in rural education research in the 1920s.
